gas-to-energy
Today’s landfills are increasingly considered a potential source of energy. The Authority has developed three landfill gas-to-energy facilities on behalf of its member jurisdictions. These facilities provide both environmental and financial benefits. Methane that in the past was flared will now be turned into electricity.
The greenhouse gas-reduction benefits of each facility is the equivalent of removing annual emissions from 2,800 vehicles or planting 3,100 acres of forest each year. They also provide enough electricity to power 1,890 homes.
