2026 Earth Day Activities in
NMWDA Member Jurisdictions

Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22nd to demonstrate support for environmental protection. Municipalities across our Member Jurisdictions are hosting a variety of Earth Day activities. The below list is a compilation of the Earth Day activities taking place throughout the month of April that are listed on municipality websites. These activities range from community clean-ups and workshops to sales of rain barrels and even some festivals! There are also hazardous household waste collection and shredding events. This list is not exhaustive, nor does the Authority endorse any activity on the list. Some events require registration ahead of the event, which is noted in the descriptions.

Anne Arundel County

Good Neighbor Group Annual Earth Day Festival
Saturday, April 25th, 2026 from 10am – 2pm
Severna Park United Methodist Church

This event brings together dozens of exhibitors, including Anne Arundel DPW, to have fun learning about the environment, animal welfare, recycling and composting, alternative energy, and physical and mental wellness. Historic London Town and Gardens, A Tree Birthday Party!

Party for the Planet at the Zoo

Baltimore City Public Works is hosting a table at the Zoo for their Earth Day event. This event is free with purchase of admission to the Zoo or Zoo membership. There will be Zookeeper chats, educational activities, other community partner tables, and more! Along the way, try fun activities and learn how to be a planet protector. Baltimore County

Earth Day Fair 
Thursday, April 23 from 11am – 2pm 
Baltimore County’s Bureau of Solid Waste Management will host tables at CCBC Catonsville, Dundalk, and Essex. Come join in this fun event that includes clothing and book swaps, giveaways, and plant sales. Event is open to the general public.  

Earth Day Event

Maryland DGS’ Sustainability and Green Purchasing will host their annual Earth Day event with many vendors and agencies coming out to talk about their sustainability efforts. 

Carroll County

Carroll County Rain Barrel and Composter On-Line Sale
Pre-order by April 5, 2026 by clicking the link!
Carroll County residents can place orders online at enviroworld.com/carrollcountymd.  Rain barrels and compost bins that you order must be picked up on April 11, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Carroll County Office Building, 225 N. Center Street, Westminster, Maryland.  Items will not be available for pick up after this date. The items cannot be purchased during the pickup event.

Carroll County Household Hazardous Waste Collection and Document Shredding
Saturday, April 18, 2026, 8am-12pm
Carroll County Vehicle Maintenance Facility
1250 Old Meadow Branch Road, Westminster, MD (off Md. Rte. 97, north of Westminster, go past Meadow Branch Road to Old Meadow Branch Road).
Carroll County residents can drop off dangerous household items listed below from 8 a.m. until 12 noon and shred sensitive documents from 8 a.m. until noon, or until the truck is full, whichever comes first. The Carroll County Health Department and Sherriff’s Office will be onsite to collect medications and sharps.

Frederick County

Tons of Textiles Collection Event
Friday, April 17, 2026, 3pm – 6pm

Residents can bring textiles, including clothing, sheets, blankets, shoes, and other clothing.

Frederick Earth Day Celebration
Saturday, April 18, 2026 from 11am – 2pm
121 N Bentz St., Frederick, MD 21701
Representatives from groups like the City’s Sustainability Department, Frederick County Division of Solid Waste & Recycling, the Audubon Society and many others will be offering hands-on activities to help promote green initiatives across the county. We will have scavenger hunts, giveaways, guided walks and so much more, all free to the public! Additionally, this year we are working with Frederick Housing and Human Services Department to bring a food drive to the event so please consider donating canned goods and non-perishable foods at the event. We look forward to seeing you there!

There will also be scheduled activities that include:
Interactive fishing demo at 11:30am
Guided Nature Walk and iNaturalist tutorial at 12:30pm
Grounding Yoga at 1:00pm

Harford County

Ag-Stravaganza Earth Day Celebration
Saturday, April 25, 2026 from 10am – 3pm

Come celebrate Earth Day, Harford Agriculture, and America’s 250th year. There will be a tree planting ceremony, rain barrel and compost bin raffle, free mulch and compost (bring your own container). Harford County Environmental and Agriculture groups will be on site. Make corn husk dolls, enjoy a butter making demonstration, livestock displays, and more. Local food trucks will be on site. Howard County

Howard County’s Greenfest

GreenFest is Howard County’s largest celebration of Earth Day. The event aims to connect residents with the resources that local businesses, non-profits and government provide to help anyone be a good steward to the environment. There will be a native plant sale, rain barrel and compost bin giveaways, and more! Pre-register for the Repair Cafe to fix or mend items from your house. Pre-register for the Trees for Bees spring tree giveaway and pick up your tree at Greenfest. Montgomery County’s GreenFest

The Montgomery County GreenFest is the largest environmental festival in Montgomery County, MD, and it is made possible by the joint effort of non-profits and government entities, such as the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection. To honor the 250th anniversary of Montgomery County (founded in 1776), this year’s theme centers on legacy and collective action. We invite every resident to celebrate Montgomery County’s 250 years by committing to 250 actions that safeguard our environment and public health.
