2024 Earth Day Activities in
NMWDA Member Jurisdictions

Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22nd to demonstrate support for environmental protection. Municipalities across our Member Jurisdictions are hosting a variety of Earth Day activities. The below list is a compilation of the Earth Day activities taking place throughout the month of April that are listed on municipality websites. These activities range from community clean-ups and workshops to sales of rain barrels and even some festivals! There are also hazardous household waste collection and shredding events. This list is not exhaustive, nor does the Authority endorse any activity on the list. Some events require registration ahead of the event, which is noted in the descriptions.

Anne Arundel County

Celebrate Earth Day at Odenton Library

Community Clean Up

Free parking in the Glen Curnie Garage at 7480 B&A Blvd

Join Councilwoman Pickard for an Earth Day Community Clean Up. Trash bags and plastic gloves will be provided, but feel free to bring your own reusable gardening gloves. If you plan to bring a group or have additional questions, please email kristin.etzel@aacounty.org.

Friends of Quiet Waters Park Earth Day Event

Baltimore City

Earth Day Event: Pop-up & Vermicomposting Workshop
Monday, April 22 from 4:30pm to 7pm

Baltimore GROW Center will be hosting a Vermicomposting Workshop. Vermicomposting is a composting process that relies on earthworks and microorganisms. Baltimore County

Baltimore County Rain Barrel and Composter On-Line Sale

Baltimore County is hosting online pre-order sale for compost bins and rain barrels to enable residents to celebrate Earth Day (April 22) through the sustainable practices of home composting and rainwater reuse.

Compost bins are available for $55 each and rain barrels are available for $65 each. Prices include tax. This sale is not limited to residents of Baltimore County.

Products can be ordered at baltimore.enviroworld.us. Pre-orders are open until Friday, April 12.

All orders must be picked up on Saturday, April 20, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) -Essex Campus, 7201 Rossville Boulevard, Lot 7.
Please bring receipt of purchase.

Compost bins and rain barrels are shipped in one piece and will fit in most cars. Please plan accordingly for the products you purchase. Distribution will occur rain or shine. All orders are taken online only. There will be no purchases available at the distribution location.

Carroll County

Carroll County Rain Barrel and Composter On-Line Sale is OPEN!

Carroll County residents can place orders online at www.enviroworld.us/carrollcountymd.  Rain barrels and compost bins that you order must be picked up on April 27, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Carroll County Office Building, 225 N. Center Street, Westminster, Maryland.  Items will not be available for pick up after this date. The items cannot be purchased during the pickup event.

Carroll County residents can drop off dangerous household items listed below from 8 a.m. until 12 noon and shred sensitive documents from 8 a.m. until noon, or until the truck is full, whichever comes first.

Frederick County

The event aims to connect residents with the resources that local businesses, non-profits and government provide to help anyone be a good steward to the environment. 20-Minute Cleanup
Anytime, Anywhere Monday, April 22

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball is also encouraging individuals and businesses to take 20 minutes this Earth Day to step outside to pick up litter around their neighborhood, school or office complex as part of the County’s 15th annual 20 Minute Cleanup initiative.
