NMWDA Member Jurisdictions
Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22nd to demonstrate support for environmental protection. Municipalities across our Member Jurisdictions are hosting a variety of Earth Day activities. The below list is a compilation of the Earth Day activities taking place throughout the month of April that are listed on municipality websites. These activities range from community clean-ups and workshops to sales of rain barrels and even some festivals! There are also hazardous household waste collection and shredding events. This list is not exhaustive, nor does the Authority endorse any activity on the list. Some events require registration ahead of the event, which is noted in the descriptions.
Anne Arundel County
23rd Annual Earth Day Festival
Sunday, April 27th from 11am – 3pm
Earleigh Heights Volunteer Fire Company

This event brings together dozens of exhibitors, including Anne Arundel DPW, to have fun learning about the environment, animal welfare, recycling and composting, alternative energy, and physical and mental wellness. Historic London Town and Gardens, A Tree Birthday Party!

Party for the Planet at the Zoo

Baltimore City Public Works is hosting a table at the Zoo for their Earth Day event. This event is free with purchase of admission to the Zoo or Zoo membership. Baltimore County
Earth Day Fair
Thursday, April 24 from 11am – 1pm
Baltimore County’s Bureau of Solid Waste Management will host tables at CCBC Catonsville, Dundalk, and Essex. Come join in this fun event that includes clothing and book swaps, giveaways, and plant sales. Learn from environmental organizations all while enjoying time under the sun with classmates. The event is open to the wider public.

Baltimore County Rain Barrel and Composter On-Line Sale
Baltimore County is hosting online pre-order sale for compost bins and rain barrels to enable residents to celebrate Earth Day (April 22) through the sustainable practices of home composting and rainwater reuse. Compost bins are available for $55 each and rain barrels are available for $65 each. Prices include tax. This sale is not limited to residents of Baltimore County. Products can be ordered at baltimore.enviroworld.us. Pre-orders are open until Sunday, April 20.
All orders must be picked up on Saturday, April 26, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) -Essex Campus, 7201 Rossville Boulevard, Lot 7.
Please bring receipt of purchase.
Compost bins and rain barrels are shipped in one piece and will fit in most cars. Please plan accordingly for the products you purchase. Distribution will occur rain or shine. All orders are taken online only. There will be no purchases available at the distribution location.
Carroll County
Carroll County Rain Barrel and Composter On-Line Sale is OPEN!
Now through April 27, 2025
Carroll County residents can place orders online at www.enviroworld.us/carrollcountymd. Rain barrels and compost bins that you order must be picked up on May 3, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Carroll County Office Building, 225 N. Center Street, Westminster, Maryland. Items will not be available for pick up after this date. The items cannot be purchased during the pickup event.
Carroll County Household Hazardous Waste and Shred Spring Event
Saturday, April 12, 2025, 8am – 12pm
Carroll County Vehicle Maintenance Facility
1250 Old Meadow Branch Road, Westminster, MD (off Md. Rte. 97, north of Westminster, go past Meadow Branch Road to Old Meadow Branch Road).
Carroll County residents can drop off dangerous household items listed below from 8 a.m. until 12 noon and shred sensitive documents from 8 a.m. until noon, or until the truck is full, whichever comes first. The Carroll County Health Department and Sherriff’s Office will be onsite to collect medications and sharps.
Frederick County
Textiles before Taxes: A Tons of Textiles Collection Event
Friday, April 11, 2025, 3pm – 6pm
The Route 85 and 7th Street Common Market Co-Op locations
Residents can bring textiles, including clothing, sheets, blankets, shoes, and other clothing.
Fri-Yay Earth Day Celebration
Friday, April 18, 2025, 10am – 10:30am
Walkersville Library
Designed for 0-5-Year-olds, this will be an excellent opportunity for young ones to get exposure to recycling and the different materials.
Harford County
Earth Day Celebration

Harford County Office of Recycling is hosting Earth Day that will include 20+ Harford County Environmental and Agriculture groups. All are welcome to enjoy our festivities.
Howard County
Howard County Greenfest

GreenFest is Howard County’s largest celebration of Earth Day. The event aims to connect residents with the resources that local businesses, non-profits and government provide to help anyone be a good steward to the environment. Montgomery County’s 10th GreenFest

The Montgomery County GreenFest is the largest environmental festival in Montgomery County, MD, and it is made possible by the joint effort of non-profits and government entities, such as the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection.
