landfill gas-to-energy facility

Anne Arundel County asked the Northeast Maryland Waste Disposal Authority to develop and issue a Request for Proposals for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of a landfill gas to electricity facility at the Millersville Landfill and Resource Recovery Facility.

The Authority issued a Request for Proposals. The proposals were reviewed and a preferred vendor was identified. The Authority will be entering into an agreement to design, build and operate the landfill gas to electricity facility. This facility will generate approximately 3.2 megawatts of renewable "green" energy.

On August 2, 2010, the Anne Arundel County Council approved the Landfill Gas-to-Energy Facility Project.

Permitting and design took approximately 15 months. Construction started in December of 2011 and will be completed in the summer of 2012.
